Our Pastor


Rev. Paul Mueller is the Pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran in Livermore CA.   While his father was in his senior year at Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Paul was born.  He was the oldest of four children (Paul, Mark (head of maintenance in Manitowoc, Wisconsin), Kurt (principal of Mt. Calvary Lutheran School in Flagstaff, Arizonia), and Sharon (kindergarten teacher at St. John Lutheran in Westland, Michigan).  His dad, a retired pastor, and mom live in Harrison, Michigan.


He attended high school in Saginaw, Michigan.  At the end of his sophomore year, he started dating Julie Panning, and they were married seven years later after one year at the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin.  Julie went to Martin Luther College (MLC), graduating in 1979 with a teaching degree.  She now teaches first grade at Arroyo Seco School in Liverrmore.  They have three daughters, Katie (who married Ethan Hutchinson in 2001 and lives on an Apache Indian resrvation where Ethan teaches at a Luthern High School), Lisa (who will be married June 2, 2006 after graduating from MLC), and Jenni (who is a junior at MLC). 

He graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary in 1983 and moved to Safford, Arizona with his family to serve Grace Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran in Duncan (50 miles apart).   In 1988, the Lord led them to take a call to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Modesto, California.  While he was there, the congregation built a new church.  In 1993 God led them to Divine Savior in Indianapolis, Indiana where he was part of a team ministry, head of evangelism.  In 1997, Good Shepherd called him to serve in Livermore.  Since they have been here, the congregation has grown from 41 communicants to 113 currently.  The congregation moved from an office complex on Las Positas to the current location at Fifth and J Streets in 1999.

Pastor Mueller enjoys sports, refereeing and coin/stamp collecting as hobbies.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach untiy in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  Ephasins 4:11–1
