Stained
glass windows are used in churches to beautify the sanctuary, and the
symbols on the windows often help remind us of Christian
concepts. This particular window has lilies in the
center. These are to remind us of Christ's resurrection.
This represents new life, such as what we have when we trust in the
truth that Christ arose from the grave so that we too can rise from the
dead when Christ returns. Lilies also represent the beauty that
God has given us on this earth. He takes care of the lilies, and
he
will take care of us.
If we have been united with him in his
death, we will certainly also be united with him in his
resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with
him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should
no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been freed
from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will
also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from
the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over
him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life
he lives, he lives to God. Romans 6:5–10
And why do you worry about
clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not
labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his
splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God
clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is
thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little
faith . . . your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But
seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself . . . Matthew 6:28–34
